Butterflies are beautiful creatures in nature and they’re equally beautiful as a butterfly tray display of fruit, veggies, meats and cheeses. I wrote a blog about creating a butterfly tray a few years ago. Since then several readers have sent me photos.
Here are several uses of butterfly trays. Go ahead and create your own version of these simple ideas that require no carving.
I recently received this photo of a beautiful butterfly tray filled with an assortment of snacks from Catherine Donati. She used three different kinds of deli meats and cheeses, oranges, tomatoes, cucumbers and garnished it with strawberries, pimento-filled green olives and bread & butter pickle chips.

Catherine’s snack butterfly tray is perfect for a small gathering.
Catherine wrote,
I went to visit a friend far away from home. She was hosting a gathering to introduce her friends. I put this together as a center piece.”
Another of my readers, Larry Slawson, sent this photo of a gorgeous fruit butterfly tray to me. Although he didn’t create it, and doesn’t know who did, we can all agree that it’s a lovely example of a butterfly tray.

Using multiple colors of fruits makes this butterfly tray extra vibrant.
We also came across this unknown example of a butterfly that appears to be used as a market or grocery store display. We wish we could give someone credit for this unique way to display produce but we don’t know the source of the photo.

Even fresh produce can be used to create a large scale butterfly design.
If you choose to use these butterfly tray ideas for inspiration, we would love to see photos of your creations.
These are absolutely beautiful works of art .

Beautiful
Hi Nita,
Thank you for keeping me updated with new ideas and inspiration, it’s really lovely for my fruit & Vegetable arrangements business!
I wonder if you would know how the second picture of the butterfly shaped tray/arrangement was made, or was it just a covered styrofoam in a shape of a butterfly?
Thank you!
I looks to me that this was a butterfly shaped tray that was then set on a cloth covered box as a riser. But I imaging that you could cut Styrofoam into a butterfly shape and cover it with foil. Or you could start with a large flat tray and shape the fruit into the shape of a butterfly. Have fun experimenting.
