Are you looking for some new watermelon carving ideas? With warmer days comes more outdoor barbecues, picnics, outdoor celebrations and juicy sweet watermelons. This article showcases the work of one of my students, Rose Flores and will show you some great ideas that you can use for your summer celebrations.

Here is a great idea for a watermelon carving for the 4th of July. This photo was sent to me by a student of my Watermelon Carving – Roses, Buds and Leaves DVD, Rose Flores. She carved this watermelon flag for Memorial Day couple of weeks ago. I love it, don’t you?

Carve on of these for your 4th of July party and I guarantee that you will impress your friends and family.

Here is what Rose wrote to me along with the photos that she sent.

“In April I purchased your Watermelon Carving DVD and have been doing fruit platters that include watermelon carvings for our family gatherings…I’ve included five pictures of some of my carvings and fruit platters:  the first is a platter with a carved watermelon fruit bowl that I prepared for my Mother-in-law for Mother’s Day (my 2nd try at Roses,Buds and Leaves; the next two are of a watermelon fruit bowl and fruit platter for a Memorial Day celebration we had yesterday; and the last two are from the first Rose and Bud carving I did after purchasing the DVD (included on a watermelon cake I made for a double celebration for my cousin’s birthday and the 1 year anniversary of the last chemo treatment of my other cousin’s husband__sorry I don’t have a picture of the full cake available)…..all my platters and the cake have been a great success….thank you for your lessons….I look forward to getting more in the near future.”

Here are the photos that Rose mentioned in her email. This first photo was only Roses 2nd try at carving roses, buds and leaves. She did a great job.

She really paid attention to carving 3 dimensional roundness of the buds and rose in the middle…especially the buds.

These next two photos are the fruit platters with the watermelon carved with as American Flag that Rose used for her Memorial Day celebration.

4th of July or Memorial Day.

Isn’t this a great idea?

Here you can see Rose’s fruit platter with the carved watermelon with the American flag in a little larger photo. In case you are wondering, the the stripes on the flag are carved and the stars a blackberry. The centers of the flowers are small pieces of blackberry.

Rose’s First Attempt at Carving Roses

The following photos show the first rose and bud carvings that Rose made after watching my Carving Watermelons – Roses, Buds and Leaves lessons. She did a great job didn’t she? Especially for the first try!

I think that Rose did a beautiful job with all of her carvings!

After Rose saw my free lesson showing how to make a red white and blue watermelon bowl, she wrote to me that she ,

“used what I’ve learned with a little twist of my own”.

Then she sent me the following photos and wrote,

“The first two pics are from my first paid order of a birthday watermelon carved fruit bowl….the next two are of my Memorial Day watermelon carved fruit bowl….hope you enjoy them”

I love what she did! I think it’s so clever how she carved the top in such a way that it could be put back on the watermelon bowl to look like a balloon. And then how she made balloon shaped from honeydew and cantaloupe and added them. It’s so colorful and festive.

One more thing, here is what Rose said about my carrot garnish lesson.

“Thank you for sharing these lessons….the new one for me was the carrot garnishments….they are wonderful for making a plain table setting fun and/or elegant….not bad in the ohhhs and ahhhhs for the backyard barbeque either.”

You can view my carrot garnish lesson on an earlier blog article.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the carving photos from Rose Flores. And I hope this article gives you some new ideas that you can use.
