Spectacular 4th of July Watermelon Cake

This red, white and blue, 4th of July watermelon cake with fireworks on top is just so cute I had to share it. These photos were sent to me by a customer/student of mine, Rose Flores. She is so creative.

This is what Rose had to say about her fanciful 4th of July cake:

Hope you have a wonderful 4th of July Celebration. ..thought I would try something different and easy for my carving this year …I was looking for. something fun and whimsical….my daughter called it “a Willy Wonka Cake”….I actually had to re-carve the two top layers over again….after cutting away the outer and inner skins I discovered that the watermelons were way over ripe….I guess finding the right carving melon was not as easy as I had thought….never had this happen before, but most likely I will run across this again in the future….any way, enjoy your day.”
-Rose Flores

From the looks of these photos, I never would have guessed that she had some frustration finding the right watermelons. I love the whimsical way she carve her watermelons to make a wonky uneven cake. The added details of the stars and stripes is so well done. And, I especially love the way she put blueberries on the ends of wires to make a fireworks looking effect.
