Most Americans are familiar with the traditional carving of Jack-O-Lanterns for Halloween. You know, the ones with triangle eyes and a big grin filled with square teeth. In the last 10 or 20 years, the American public has seen a big increase in more sophisticated pumpkin creations at Halloween time. Lots of cools stencil designs have become more and more popular.
Now, the latest, greatest pumpkin carving techniques involve carving 3 dimensional faces that can be either lifelike, cartoonish or terrifying.

Pretty Pumpkin Carving
Now, lets talk about beautiful pumpkin carving that is useful all year round.
Pumpkins can be carved into some of the most beautiful bowls, vessels and flowers to dress up any meal or table decoration. Pretty carvings can be used as flowers in an arrangement, and they can be used as graceful decorative lanterns and more.
Although the familiar, Halloween style pumpkin is typically only available in autumn, other types of pumpkins can be found in many parts of the world year round. Kabocha Squash which is also known as Japanese pumpkin is a great material for carving. it’s dark green skin provides a striking contrast to the bright orange flesh inside. The smooth texture of the flesh makes it great for carving.
