Many people mistakenly believe that edible arrangements can only be created by professionals. But the fact is: you don’t need to spend money on a florist, food artist or any other bouquet maker to have beautiful, delicious edible arrangements in your home.

With just a few simple tips and some tools you already own, you too can learn the secrets that professional vegetable and fruit-carving experts have been using for decades.

Edible Arrangements Add WOW to Your Table

Edible arrangements add life to any dining room table, and they make great gifts too. Unlike regular floral arrangements and bouquets, these arrangements are inexpensive to make, and they are guaranteed to “wow” your guests, every time.

Let’s look at some of the main reasons why edible arrangements are so special.

1. They make a beautiful centerpiece.

If you’re hosting a special dinner, book club, or any other event, you’re probably looking for simple ways to make your dining space more attractive and inviting. Creating edible arrangements is a great way to add beauty to your dining table in ways that ordinary centerpieces can’t. The bright colors and unique textures of fruits and vegetables attract the eye and make your dining space one of a kind.

2. The aromas are irresistible.

Ordinary floral arrangements smell wonderful, but they can’t compare to the fresh, sweet aromas of carved melons and other fruits. Many people forget about this key aspect of edible arrangements. They don’t just taste great. They smell great, too! Use the arrangement to fill your home with delicious, natural aromas that will stir the senses of your guests.

These edible arrangements are taught in Nita's Vegetable and Fruit Carving 101 video course.

3. Edible arrangements are truly unique and creative.

All edible arrangements are unique and distinct from each other – even when they’re designed to have the same overall look. Vegetable and fruit carving is an art form that reveals your creativity and attention to detail. Even if you don’t consider yourself to be a “creative” person, all you have to do is follow the simple guidelines to make your own unique edible art. Your guests will be absolutely impressed and will appreciate the extra care and thought you put into making your home more welcoming. And of course they’ll ask, “How did you do that!”

4. It’s a conversation starter.

Hosting a party? Planning a dinner with friends or family? Using edible arrangements is a great way to “break the ice” and get the conversation started naturally. Your guests will be quick to notice and compliment your fruit bouquet; then, they’ll ask you for your secret techniques! Ordinary centerpieces and bouquets are pretty, but nothing grabs attention quite like hand-carved fruit and vegetables.

5. They’re so much fun to make!

Making your edible arrangements is a fun, fulfilling activity for all ages. You can do it with your spouse, your kids, your grandkids or your friends. In fact, you can host an entire party around the activity of making edible arrangements, and everyone will have so much fun.

I had been using a lesser quality knife of similar design and was having trouble carving small zig-zag patterns. When I first used one of these, I fell in love. Wow. This knife was so dramatically better and sharper I could hardly believe it. I had thought my inability to cut the fine pattern was due to my lack of skill. Turns out the sharpness and quality of the blade made a huge difference – for the better.

This knife is very very sharp and makes cutting peeled melons almost like cutting through butter. It’s rounded stainless steel handle makes it easy to turn the knife when carving fine details. It’s nice light weight and balance make it a pleasure to work with. And as a bonus, it’s very quite beautiful with its traditional Thai design of flowing colors on a shiny metallic surface.

The convenient sheath that protects the blade is made of plastic and is covered with the same colorful Thai design as the handle.

The flexible blade is made of strong but lightweight stainless steel and is 1 3/4 inches long.

These knives are handmade by a master blades man and imported from Thailand.

Favored by professional fruit carvers, these are great for intermediate and advance carvers. Beginners can use them as well but should be very careful with them as they are very sharp.

Recommended care to maintain beauty and sharpness – carefully hand wash these knives and dry with a soft cloth right away and replace the sheath. Never submerge is a sink full of soapy water because you’ll risk cutting yourself when you reach in the retrieve your knife. NOT dishwasher safe.

If you are seeking a gift for an intermediate or experienced fruit carver, these make for valued and appreciated gifts that will provide pleasure for years.

Please be aware that these come is a variety of colors. Due to limited availability, you may request a color but if we don’t have that particular color in stock , we will send you another.

They are all beautiful.

Hi, I’m Nita Gill.

Because so many people have been asking for more video lessons, I’m thrilled to be able to finally announce that I have a new 11 week online video course available for beginners. I’m calling it Vegetable and Fruit Carving Course 101.

With my video course, you will WOW your family, friends and clients by transforming common fruits and vegetables into impressive works of art.

When you start making the fruit and vegetable carvings in my course you will be hearing comments like these.

“WOW”

“Beautiful”

“You Made That?”

“That is sooo cute”

“How fun”

“Those aren’t real flowers?”

Adults will say “They are just too pretty to eat”

Children will say “When can we eat these?”

You will definitely get Ooohs and Aaaaahs.

You’ll get the creative satisfaction of turning common fruit and vegetables into beautiful garnishes, bouquets, side dishes and centerpieces that you will be proud to display. Once you know some of the basics there is no end to what you can create.

Your guests will certainly be impressed when they come for dinner or a party and are greeting by your lovely carvings. And, you’ll be the talk of your community when your guests tell their friends. It’s happened to me time and time again even when I was just beginning and I know it will happen for you, too.

You’ll be surprised at how easy it is once you know how.

You’ll make your loved ones feel special when your make carvings for them. And, if you have children in your life, you may even find them happily eating more fruits and vegetables.

Because I know that Vegetable and Fruit carving Classes can be really hard to find, my intention is to offer you an online video course that comes as close to being a live class as possible. In some ways, it’s better because you always have a front row seat, and you can replay any lesson over at any time. You can learn at your own pace, on your own schedule in the comfort of your own kitchen.

I want to save you the time and money that I wasted during my process of learning vegetable and fruit carving by trial and error. I wasted money on so many books that were not as helpful as I thought they would be. Some turned out to have silly projects that were just too childish. Some had great carvings but required tools that I could not find anywhere. Some had lovely carvings but the photos and words didn’t really communicate exactly how to make them. So, many of the lessons ended up being incomprehensible to me.

If you’re like me, you’ll learn best by being shown how. So, in my video lessons, I show you and explain, step-by-step how to carve and get great results on your first try.

I start with easy projects that you can start making right away without special tools and with ingredients that you probably already have at home.

In my 11 week video course, you will have access to a new video each week.

My video lessons are structured to build your skills lesson by lesson while giving you the satisfaction of beautiful carvings right away. It’s way more fun to have ‘instant gratification’ than to be frustrated by jumping into lessons that are too advanced and then getting discouraged.

In addition to learning how to carve, I also show you common mistakes, how to avoid them, and how to fix or camouflage them. You will learn how to store your carvings so that they look fresh when you display them. And, you will learn how long you can expect your carvings to last.

While learning step by step, each step of the way will seem easy.

Along the way, you will learn how to use the most versatile and useful fruit carving knives and tools. I’ll recommend the ones that I like the best. And, because these knives and tools are difficult if not impossible to find in stores, I make it easy for you by offering them on my website. For other tools that you can find easily, I’ll make suggestions as to where to get them.

So, what’s in the lessons? I’ll show you so that you’ll know if this is for you.

We start with carving onion lotus flowers . You’ll learn to make several variations, with several different types of flower centers. You’ll see how you can use them as a garnish, ways that you can use them as part of a meal, and how you can add them in vegetable flower arrangements.

Upon receiving the hearts and roses DVD, I became more interested in Thai carving, So my mother and I were asked to do a dinner for 200 people and I carved some small round watermelon and cantalope flowers and put them by my chocolate fountain dessert table, and everyone was amazed at my work, and I told them I was in the process of learning from a lady, Nita Gill, out of California. I did send Nita pictures of more carvings I did for work and only used a paring knife. With the right tools and time, I will become even more better.
Thanks again Nita!!!”

“My cousin had her engagement party last weekend and so my mum and I decided to be adventurous and give it a try. I made the radish flower bouquet and also the leek flower thing. My mum did the rose carving using turnips and beetroot.

I must admit when I started the radish – they did not look as good as yours, however, when I arranged all of it into a bouquet using a potatoe and lettuce leaves to cover the base – it really looked great!

As for the leek – that was a winner and so simple to do.

But I really enjoyed the finished product – it raised a lot attention especially at the hall where all the displays where placed in front main table.

Good Evening Nita: It has been a great experience to work with you. Your approach to fruit and vegetable carving is honest and realistic. I fall someplace between a rank armature and one being able to turn out a decent carving. You have been most helpful and I look forward to improving my garnish and centerpieces following your instructions and recommendations. Like others within your instructional circle I am eagerly awaiting your next video. I have enclosed a photo of my my latest practice melon.
Easy to follow and great camera work. Be very proud of what you do, and thanks for sharing your knowledge with others.

E. S.

You did a great job of explaining what you were doing and WHY, which is very important. For instance, you explained that in making the first few cuts of the radish, you don’t go in too deep or the radish will crack. You also explained WHY the radishes need to be placed in ice water.

It was also great that you dropped a radish from the “bouquet” and then said, “Sometimes things like that happen.” Good move leaving that in the video. It’s important.

Sincerely, S. Perkins
California

The 3rd will show you how to make a simple, yet striking “cake” from watermelon. Check your email now. You may have to approve first to give me permission to send you emails.
