frank and nita's cake made of fruitThese cakes made of fruit give a whole new meaning to the words fruit cake.

In a recent blog post I showed some watermelon cakes similar to the ideas presented in my video lessons Watermelon Cakes #1 and #2.  Now I’ll show you some variations on those ideas. Make sure to read to the end to see some wacky and imaginative fruit cakes.

This first cake made from fruit is about as close to carving fruit as my husband, Frank gets. We wanted to put together a quick cake made of fruit for Franks son’s birthday. My stepson is an Iron Man Triathlete and doesn’t much care for real cake. This was a kind of last minute thing. continue reading…

Carved wateremlon cake by Ali Tahir Butt

Ali Tahir Butt with his carved watermelon cake

A while back, when I first published my carved watermelon cake video, many readers and students/customers were inspired and sent me messages and photos of their carved watermelon cake creations. Here is what one of my students, down under in Australia, wrote to me.

Hi Nita,
Happy Birthday and thanks for the beautiful gift of watermelon cake carving. Its amazing how a little thought can turn an ordinary watermelon into a work of art. I thank God for sending us his favorite Fruit carving Angel into the Body form of Nita. God Bless you for bringing the joy in people’s life. May God give you a long life to keep blessing every one with your talent.
Regards,
Ali”

Thanks for the kind message, Ali. It gave me a kick to be called a fruit carving angel. I like that image – makes me smile.

I’ve had watermelon cake photos from readers for a while, and now that watermelon season is here, I’d like to start sharing some of these photos. Hopefully, they will inspire you and give you good ideas for making your own carved watermelon cake! continue reading…

An example of a watermelon cake taught in Nita's video lessons

Today, I want to show you how my readers have gotten creative with their watermelon cakes. I have received many photos and messages sent to me by readers and students telling me how much they enjoyed my free watermelon cake lesson and my Watermelon Cakes #1 and #2 DVD lessons.

I love all the different variations and twists that students and readers have added to the watermelon cakes to make it their own. The cakes are beautiful and colorful and are a healthy alternative to the sugar and fat loaded real cakes.  I thought you might like to see these photos to get ideas for your own edible creations. continue reading…

Nitas carved watermelon cakes

Examples of cakes taught in Nita's Watermelon Cakes video lessons

Watermelon cakes can make a healthy alternative to regular cakes that are full of artery clogging butter, (or worse yet, trans fats), diabetes inducing sugar and processed white flour full of gluten that lots of people are allergic to. I still love cakes, but it is nice to have a pretty and healthy alternative.

Did you know that I offer some video lessons where I show how to make several different carved watermelon cakes? The photo to the right show 3 of the cake designs that I teach. The first one is a super simple cake made with watermelon, honeydew and pineapple. In another post on my blog you can see  how students took the idea and added their own ideas to come up with a fun variety of watermelon cakes. The second cake from carved watermelon that I teach is a Happy Birthday design. The third that you see topped with carved roses my look intricate and difficult but it is easier than you night think , once you are shown how. You’ll be surprised at what you can do.

Anyway, I wanted to show you an elaborate take on my watermelon cake idea. This video is by Tiron Gabi and shows a multi-tiered watermelon cake all carved from one very large watermelon.

Look at all that detail. continue reading…
