student competition winnersAbout a year and a half ago, I had the honor of judging a fruit carving student competition at an event called Carve IV that took place in Holland, Michigan at the city’s bustling Farmer’s Market. It was my second year that I had the honor of serving as a judge for the Collegiate National Championships.

A couple of weeks ago we posted about upcoming fruit and vegetable competitions and while digging around for photos, I came across a few videos from the competition and realized that I had yet to share them. Family Fun on the 4th of July

See watermelon carvings, honeydew carvings, radish bouquet and a lovely watermelon bowl perfect for the 4th of July (or any celebration when watermelon is in season).

My husband and I, like so many people across the USA, had a 4th of July BBQ party. It was a crazy week with preparing for and appearing on the  San Diego Living TV show on July 3rd and then throwing a party for about 30 people the very next day.

When my husband and I left the TV studio at about 10:30 a.m. on July 3rd, we had done nothing to prepare for the party other than having a few fruit and vegetable carvings left over for the show to use for the party. So we got busy continue reading…

One of the highlights is that two days ago I made my first live TV appearance. San Diego Living asked me to come and do a segment on fruit decorating. On Monday, July 3rd i spoke to the segment producer and the very next day, I was on TV.  Since it was July 3rd, I showed a couple of red, white and blue 4th of July ideas. The first ever U.S. Collegiate National Championships were held at THE CARVE event at the Holland Farmer’s Market in Holland Michigan. It was all about fruit and vegetable carving. What fun it was.
